Within minutes of publishing our pledge to provide 250 free meals for children that needed them during the October half term, we had several requests from our supporters to provide contributions towards the costs.
After pictures of pathetic food parcels were circulated in the media in January we decided to step up again by offering decent, nutritious hampers to children that need them.
Between January 13th and April 11th we raised almost £7,500 and distributed 474 hampers containing more than 5,000 meals to families across Croydon that needed them.
We are thankful for the volunteers who helped with deliveries, Croydon Covid Mutual Aid for helping connect us with volunteers and to the hundreds of individuals who contributed funds towards the cost of the hampers and to Bagatti’s Restaurant in South Croydon for donating freshly cooked meals.
We are particularly grateful to Maree Waller and the Musical Bumps community in Croydon who donated £555 to help fund the hamper deliveries for an extra week and to Katie Rose for organising the Food of Love event in February which raised well over £100.
We will continue to explore ways we can work to support the local community in tackling food poverty in the months and years ahead, but for now we must end our hamper deliveries while we prepare to reopen to the public in May.
Thank you all for your support.
“Thanks so much for your help, the food parcels you have given me is what my kids have to eat, with the school voucher I buy the meat, fish and some yoghurts. I’m a single mum, I work but the money I earn just covers the household bills and nothing is left for the rest. I’m really thankful for your help.”
