October 14, 2017.12:00 pm-October 31, 2017.10:00 pm
NEW ART EXHIBITION, Jo Nicholson, ‘Carnival’
OPENS: Saturday 14th October, 7pm-till late in the art gallery
Free admission, open to all.
We are delighted to welcome back local Croydon artist Jo Nicholson for the launch of her latest exhibition ‘Carnival’ this weekend!
The process behind Jo’s work is Automatic Drawing, a technique she has refined for the last ten years, by generating ideas and avenues by stimulating a trance-like meditative state that fuses performative elements with creative well-being, to produce unique, improvised artworks – a surreal exorcism from within.
The artworks on display range from an incredibly detailed embroidery piece, to vibrant paintings and incredibly meticulous, large-scale drawings. In Andre Breton’s Surrealist Manifesto at the beginning of the Twentieth Century, he claimed that automatic was defined as…Pure psychic automatism…`Which he claimed; `…Directly access the subconscious.’. .Expect this stunning collection of intricate artworks to evoke a sense of the proceedings bubbling over, potentially becoming too much or excessive….An expectation of that something is about to take place or happen/the
aftermath of an event and debris left behind. A climax or an anti-climax!
Free Admission! This exhibition is for a limited time only and will close at end of the month. All artworks are for sale!
More than 80 artworks are currently on display by other local artists, across this quirky arts venue throughout the year in addition to this special exhibition in the art gallery. For food and drinks, you will find yourself treated well at Brgr&Beer who have a tap takeover with Fourpure Brewing Co. going on in the main area, the same night!
10 minutes walk from East or West Croydon stations and easily accessed by bus, tram and wheelchair friendly! Matthews Yard is located just off Surrey Street Market.
