A few months ago I got an email from Carlos Cashiero declaring interest in creating a piece for outside Matthews Yard. At first, I thought it was spam, sounding too awesome to be true. However, it was a serious request. Continue reading →
December: Lis Watkins [4th November- 28th November 10am- 10pm]
This exhibition features numerous works by Lis Watkins with some of our favourite Croydon landscapes, be that urban or the more rural wandle park.
In September 2011, I started a daily drawing diary online as a way of improving my sketching skills and helping my work as an illustrator.
During that time I’ve made lots of drawings in and around Croydon and south east London, some of which are exhibited here.
I’m still continuing with my blog, posting something creative everyday and you can take a look atwww.lineandwash.blogspot.co.uk or on twitter @lineandwash
A group of Visual Artists living and working in Thornton Heath, ‘Heath Collective’ has emerged organically from the very first Thornton Heath Arts Week (THAW) which took place in the Summer of 2014. Exhibition runs from: 30th December – 26th January 2015 between 10am and 10pm.
We were each unaware of one another’s existence in our local area until THAW brought us all together. We are surprised and delighted to have discovered each other and such a wealth of talent and enthusiasm right on our doorsteps. This has led to our first joint exhibition as ‘Heath Collective’.
Amongst us are painters, photographers, sculptors, filmmakers, textile and environmental artists.
On display here at Matthews Yard is a selection of work from the following artists: Bareface, Karen Barnette, Julie Beresford, Anne Davies, Jess Gell, Jackie Morrison, Kelly Quintyne
Leoni Descartes, our new Chief Executive, starts a new series where guest bloggers share what Matthews Yard means to them
Over two years in and it’s still refreshing that I get excited and surprised by working at Matthews Yard. It is not just the thousands of people I see every week, or the hundreds you have that brief brush of conversation with, or the few dozen you will witness to be the future leaders and ambassadors for the Cronx. It isn’t Matthews Yard’s constant ability to adapt to changes and competition in the market so quickly either. The thing which has made me grow so fond – is the community that surrounds it.
